Medieval gardens

Garden plan

Mike Brown discovered the fascination of gardening and plants when very young. His Grandmother, who was the housekeeper at Long Sutton Manor in Hampshire, encouraged Mike to help her with the weeding and on occasions the planting, and he have been gardening ever since.

Mike has been involved in a number of large garden projects, including the gardens at the Menagerie, Horton, Northamptonshire.

In 1980 Mike began researching the history of medieval gardens and in 1995 he designed the recreated medieval gardens of the Prebendal Manor. Mike has also designed and planted up a wild garden on the site to provide a longer lasting flowering period than those plants used in the medieval recreated gardens, many of which are not repeat flowering.

Mike was granted his Licentiate of the City & Guilds Institute in 1995.
